(maiden name Buckingham) Came across this link via Drawn to the Valley artists group.  What a great idea.  Started to bring back memories of the village and some of the names that would have been familiar in our household as a child.  Keep up the connections from where ever you are in the world.

My dad, Samuel WERRIN, died AT 92 earlier this year on my birthday, 16/01/12. My grandparents, Sidney and Ethel (nee LEE) lived at Egypt for as long as I can remember, and the family before that. My aunt Emily (became JONAS)  moved down the road from Golberdon to live there afterwards with her family. Just beginning to start some family history searching so if anybody in the area has any memories I would love to hear from you. I have a huge family bible which suggests some links to family names WILLAMS and MITCHELL.

Just a quick note to say that Les Doidge will be very sadly missed; his friendliness and energy made him a great person to know (even when, like me, you're over 60 years apart in age!), and he definitely had one of the best Cornish accents I've ever heard! Definitely someone who should go down in South Hill parish history.

My grandparents were the Janes who lived in the South Hill School house for many years and I was born in Callington, daughter of George Jane and Jean Standing.  I've been living in the US since I was 14 (1966) but my daughter Kerenza visited South Hill this summer with our cousins and was given a wonderful tour of the church.  I actually have a picture of her sitting at the organ that my mother used to play and my grandfather hand pump.  I want to thank those who put the parish records on line as I've been able to trace the Janes and the Mitchells back many generations.  I hope to come back and visit myself someday - I actually have a secret dream to retire to Cornwall, I still consider it "home" as my best childhood memories took place there, many hours being spent wandering the fields, woods and lanes around South Hill and playing in the hay barn at Brocks' farm.

This is the first time I've looked at the South Hill website and it appears to be a lovely area.
According to her baptism certificate my paternal grandmother Ellizabeth Lark was baptised at Lanteague in the parish of South Hill on the 14th November 1856, the daughter of John (a miner) and Rebecca (nee Allen) Lark.  The minister's name is undecipherable. Can anyone tell me where or what "Lanteague" was, please ?  Was it a farm or a house.  I don't know what religious denomination they were and can't find the event in parish registers for the area on the website.  Can anyone help please.  Many thanks.

I read Rosie's tales of her adventures in South Africa in the October newsletter, and it sounds absolutely amazing!  Rosie, I'm so impressed with your experiences; it sounds like you're contributing to something really important in a big way (and conveniently getting to travel to SA and meet lots of interesting people as well, of course!).  I hope you'll do another article for the newsletter when you go out again next year, I want to hear more!!  And I hope university is going swimmingly for you.

Kathy.

I love Cornwall.  Visited there some years ago with my husband & 3 kids and stayed at a fabulous b&b in Golberdon. I returned for another visit with my mother 3 years ago and stayed at the same little b/b called "Kaedeen".  Feels like home from home...the hostess is Irish and the host is from Golberdon itself - a perfect mix.  Hope they're still there when I plan another trip...www.keadeen.co.uk and thanks Parkyn family.

Uglo had the farm, regards from Marjorie Rickard
