Good to see your jubilee celebrations went well. We had tea on the grass in the middle of the Close where I live. I still miss Cornwall. Looks as though The Windmills is still on the map with open gardens. Best wishes to anyone who remembers me.

Good to hear from you, Pat. Windmills is definitely still on the map. Anvil Cottage and Windmills open together every year, with great success.

Hi Miranda
I'm just checking, are you still receiving these messages from the Guest Book?
It looks as though there haven't been any for a very long time.

I managed to find my way in at last. I think I had just forgotten how to do it. As you say, there have npbeen no messages for ages.

Read the newsletter every time it arrives. Keep up the good work.
Glad to see the Annual Show is still going strong.
Could not find the schedule for the competitions on the website. Just thought I would have a nose to see what was needed for the Flower Arranging!

My paternal grandmother (nee Elizabeth Lark) was Cornish and her (very faded) baptism certificate states that she was baptised on the 14th November 1856 in (what looks like) "Lanteague" in the parish of South HIll. The minister's name is also unreadable. Does Lanteague or a similar name ring bells with anyone please, I would love to know ? My family history researches are extensive but this is still a mystery. She and my grandfather John Myers settled in his home town of Dalton-in-Furness in what is now Cumbria. Many thanks.

My wife and I have just returned from spending a week on Glenn Silva Farm, we were searching for my Great Grandfathers grave, his name was William Ash and he died aged 29 in Liskeard, he was a minor at Redmoor Mine, he married my Great Grandmother Hanna Warne from Southill and we visited the church where she was baptised. We have now traced both Ash & Warne families that go back in the area to 1794 and they left for London in 1911, amazing to see your family history. We continue our search.

My husbands great great grandfather was Sampson Widger (1789-1875) who lived at South Hill, we are visiting cornwall next year and hope to visit the area.
Have you any information about the family and are there any Widgers still living locally?

Hi, I'm visiting South Hill on my way down to meet my husband and son as they complete a cycle from John O'Groats to Lands End. I'm staying nearby and am planning on visiting South Hill to acquaint myself with the village and area where my ancestors (Sleemans) came from. Does anyone know if there are any gravestones or records that are easily accessible for my brief visit?
regards
Joanna

My ancestor sampson widger lived at Golberdon. He was born at St Cleer about 1790 and was living at Goberdon at the time of the 1851 census. Can anyone tell me if there are Widgers still living in the vicinity?

(maiden name Buckingham) Came across this link via Drawn to the Valley artists group. What a great idea. Started to bring back memories of the village and some of the names that would have been familiar in our household as a child. Keep up the connections from where ever you are in the world.

My dad, Samuel WERRIN, died AT 92 earlier this year on my birthday, 16/01/12. My grandparents, Sidney and Ethel (nee LEE) lived at Egypt for as long as I can remember, and the family before that. My aunt Emily (became JONAS) moved down the road from Golberdon to live there afterwards with her family. Just beginning to start some family history searching so if anybody in the area has any memories I would love to hear from you. I have a huge family bible which suggests some links to family names WILLAMS and MITCHELL.

Just a quick note to say that Les Doidge will be very sadly missed; his friendliness and energy made him a great person to know (even when, like me, you're over 60 years apart in age!), and he definitely had one of the best Cornish accents I've ever heard! Definitely someone who should go down in South Hill parish history.
